  • Elleste Solo MX contains oestradiol, a synthetic version of oestrogen.
  • It comes in patch form and is available in two strengths.
  • It helps relieve menopause symptoms such as vaginal dryness, night sweats, and hot flushes.
  • It does not contain progesterone, so it may not be suitable for all women.
  • Some women may need to take an additional progesterone-based hormone replacement therapy.
  • In some cases, it is used to treat conditions where the ovaries do not produce enough oestrogen.
  • Always read the patient leaflet for a full list of possible side effects and precautions.

Elleste Solo MX contains a synthetic form of oestrogen. During menopause, oestrogen levels drop, leading to symptoms like hot flushes, night sweats and vaginal dryness.

The oestradiol in the patch is absorbed through the skin, increasing oestrogen levels and helping to ease these symptoms.

Elleste Solo MX can also help prevent osteoporosis. Oestrogen supports bone health, so the patch may be prescribed to lower the risk of fractures and bone-related conditions.

Elleste Solo MX patches should be used as prescribed. They must be applied to clean, dry skin on the lower back or buttocks.

The patch should be replaced every 3 or 4 days, following a cycle of two patches per week. Each new patch should be applied to a different area to avoid skin irritation.

After removing a patch, dispose of it safely, keeping it away from children.

Elleste Solo MX patches come in two strengths:

  • 40 microgram patches contain 1.25 mg of oestradiol hemihydrate and release 40 micrograms of estradiol per day.
  • 80 microgram patches contain 2.5 mg of oestradiol hemihydrate and release 80 micrograms of estradiol per day.

Women are usually started on the lower strength (40 micrograms) to minimise the risk of side effects.

Like all medications, Elleste Solo MX can cause side effects. The most common include:

  • Redness or irritation at the site of the patch
  • Nausea or vomiting (feeling sick or being sick)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vaginal thrush (a yeast or fungal infection)
  • Swelling, fluid retention or oedema
  • Dizziness
  • Weight gain or loss
  • Feeling tired.

If side effects persist, speak to a doctor.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can slightly increase the risk of certain cancers, including breast and uterine cancer. The risk is higher with long-term use or higher doses. Your doctor will assess whether the benefits outweigh the risks.

Serious allergic reactions are rare. Seek emergency medical help if you experience symptoms of anaphylaxis, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue.

Elleste Solo MX may not be suitable for everyone. Speak to your prescriber if you:

  • Have, or have ever had, breast cancer
  • Have, or have ever had a cancer stimulated by oestrogen, such as a uterine (womb) cancer
  • Have undiagnosed vaginal or genital bleeding
  • Have endometrial hyperplasia, fibroids, or endometriosis
  • Have, or have ever had, a PE (pulmonary embolism) or DVT (deep vein thrombosis) – a blood clot to the lungs or leg
  • Have a thrombophilic disorder (blood clotting disorders)
  • Have angina or have had a heart attack (myocardial infarction), or any other form of arterial blood clot
  • Have had a stroke
  • Have liver disease
  • Have porphyria
  • Have hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Have diabetes
  • Have migraine
  • Have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus)
  • Have epilepsy
  • Have asthma
  • Are overweight or a smoker.

If you become pregnant while using Elleste Solo MX, stop treatment immediately. It is not suitable for use during breastfeeding.

  • Phenytoin, phenobarbital, or carbamazepine for seizures or fits
  • Rifampicin
  • Rifabutin
  • Nevirapine
  • Efavirenz
  • St John’s Wort (Hypericum Perforatum).

Before prescribing Elleste Solo MX you will need to complete our online consultation, which is checked by a registered doctor. This ensures the medication is suitable for you.

If prescribed, Elleste Solo MX will be ordered via an electronic prescription and dispatched from a partner pharmacy.
