Video: An overview of Zolpidem
Take a look at the video below to get a simple overview of Zolpidem, including what it is used for, dosages, side effects and precautions:
How Does Zolpidem Work?
Zolpidem is a prescription medicine that increases levels of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in the brain. This blocks certain brain chemicals, helping to calm the central nervous system, which promotes relaxation and sleep.
The body can become used to zolpidem, leading to dependence if taken for too long. Stopping it suddenly may cause withdrawal symptoms. This is why doctors usually prescribe it for short periods to help with temporary sleep difficulties. When taken as prescribed, the risk of dependence is low.
How is Zolpidem Taken?
Zolpidem Tablets
Zolpidem should be taken at night, just before going to bed.
It causes drowsiness, so only take it when you are ready to sleep.
The tablets should be swallowed with water and can be taken with or without food.
